I finally finished The Art of Memory[yates:memory]. The parts I was interested in (the structural evolution of cognitave schema over time) was interleaved with politics and historical framing, but it was still a good book. It is, however, 390 pages of dense footnotes and cross-referencing, so that should be your thing if you are going to read it.
