Since the first presidential debate is going to be tonight, Theresa and I thought it would be fun to organize a Mallet-style watching of the debate in the basement (this includes boozeahol!). So during our lunch outing, we dropped by the Republican and Democratic party offices (they are conveniently next to each other) to pick up material.

What an edutainment that was!

The Democrats were staffed by several incredibly intense (and wrinkled) women with huge glasses. There were at least 3 computers which we saw, and every surface was covered with printouts or photocopies of material on positions, copies of websites, and everything had citations. The court documentation we received from them (about the Alabama judge elections) included a diagram detailing exactly how the court system works here. Here it is:

The Republicans, in contrast, told us that their judges had children, where they had gone to high school, and that they had, and believed in "values" ("values" weren't really specified or defined in their material). That's pretty much it. Oh, and they had no presidential position material at all. Wow.
